In September 2021, the master plan for the Guangdong–Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin was issued. Five years later, the vision of supporting Macao’s economic diversification is becoming reality. Founded in Hengqin in 2014, AMicro has spent twelve years developing integrated circuit and robotics technologies in step with the region’s growth.
01 Twelve years of technology development alongside the Cooperation Zone
AMicro has grown from a founding team of just over 20 people to nearly 400 employees, with R&D staff representing 80%. It was Hengqin’s first national specialized and innovative “Little Giant” enterprise. With more than 2,000 intellectual property applications, it entered China’s Top 500 Enterprises for Patent Strength in 2025 and leads the zone in both invention patents granted and valid invention patents held.

02 Two-way Hengqin–Macao collaboration across borders
Over the five years since implementation of the master plan, AMicro has developed a presence in both locations: R&D and commercialization in Hengqin, and international connections and university innovation in Macao. Its approach combines Hengqin R&D, international expansion through Macao and Greater Bay Area commercialization for global markets.
AMicro’s first postdoctoral researcher came from the University of Macau; more than 30 Macao researchers have now been jointly trained. It has established a joint laboratory with the university, the Guangdong Engineering Technology Research Center for Dedicated Mobile Robotics Chips and an integrated circuit talent training base. It has also held product launches in Macao, using the China–Portuguese-speaking countries trade platform to reach Portuguese-speaking and Belt and Road markets.
03 Advancing innovation through full-stack capabilities
In 2016, AMicro successfully taped out the world’s first dedicated SoC for robotic motion control and SLAM, giving robots a brain for autonomous decisions. In 2026, it will also introduce a high-compute brain-chip solution for embodied robots. With a vision of bringing robots to every industry to improve everyday life, it continues to build a complete computing–perception–actuation technology system toward a globally leading chip-level robotics platform.

04 The next five years, here together
During his December 2024 visit to Hengqin, President Xi Jinping described it as a new land of opportunity, saying that this “Peach Blossom Spring” was a place where fields could be cultivated.
In the fertile environment jointly developed by Hengqin and Macao, AMicro is cultivating independently developed robotics chips. Supporting Guangdong’s chip-strengthening initiative and the Greater Bay Area’s international innovation center, it is committed to building a globally leading chip-level full-stack robotics platform.
AMicro will continue advancing alongside Hengqin and Macao over the Cooperation Zone’s next five years.
